Established 1858
The First Baptist Church of Norwood was established in 1858 when Norwood was known as South Dedham. On October 13 of that year, 35 members from the West Dedham (now Westwood) Baptist Church covenanted together to plant a church. They held initial services in Union Hall and Hartshorn Hall. By June 7, 1859, the congregation laid the cornerstone for their own church building on Washington Street, dedicating it on December 1, 1859. In 1950, the original church property was sold, and the congregation relocated to a new building at 71 Bond Street, with the cornerstone laid on October 7, 1951, and the dedication service held on January 27, 1952.
The church thrived for decades; benefiting the community and growing to a membership of more than 400 by the 1960's
In the more recent past, the church has gone through seasons of both flourishing and discouragement.

New Beginnings
In October 2024, First Baptist Church of Norwood was on the brink of closure. At that point, our church decided to work with local pastors John Ames and Kevin Marando to put together a plan to replant/revitalize the church. The church congregation is currently in a new and exciting moment of renewal and is enthusiastic about the future, inviting those who God has called to join in on the journey.
We believe God calls us to grow His Kingdom by giving sacrificially of our time, our resources, our energy, our people. We don't do this for the sake of building a name for ourselves, but so that the name of Jesus Christ might be made known throughout all of Greater Boston.
We dream of a day when every single man, woman, and child in Greater Boston has repeated, meaningful opportunities to hear and respond to the good news of Jesus.
We long to see what God is doing here at FBC Norwood multiplied in town after town through training, equipping, and sending out church planters and revitalizers who will carry the light of Christ into new places and hurting communities.
Join us in the mission. Let’s see His Kingdom come!
